Why We Chose Katy for Our First Expansion

Looking for burgers in Katy and wondering why we showed up on Franz Road? Fair question. Picking a second spot takes more than finding a space and dropping another pin on the map. When we started looking beyond our Washington Avenue home, Katy already felt familiar. That came from years of work trips, meals, conversations, and a food community that kept giving us reasons to pay attention.

Our Katy spot opened on September 19, 2026, at 21904 Franz Road, near Franz Road and North Mason Road. The address is new. The reasons we picked it go back a lot further.

What You’ll Learn

Here’s what you’ll get out of the next few minutes:

  • Why Katy was already familiar to Abbas before we ever signed a lease.
  • How Katy’s local food community shaped the decision.
  • Why a second spot shouldn’t be a copy and paste of the first.
  • What we’re serving in Katy, when we’re open, and how to find us.

Why It Matters

Anyone can announce a new address. Knowing why a spot opened where it did tells you what to expect from it. For us, it’s the difference between hanging a sign on a building and joining a neighborhood. If you’re deciding where to eat in Katy, or you’re just curious how a Houston spot picks where to grow, the thinking behind the move says a lot about how we cook and how we take care of people.

Your Next Step

Read on, then pull up. Order a smash burger and a side of fries, and pay attention to the details: the crispy edges and the cheese melting into the beef. Ready to eat? You can order online, dine in with us, or contact us with questions.

Katy Was Already Part of How We Explored Houston

Between 2017 and 2020, Abbas traveled around the Houston area for work. Some days that meant driving all the way out to Angleton or Conroe. Wherever the job took him, he hunted down a great meal nearby. Those trips got him through the day, and they also showed him what people were cooking all over the region.

Katy stood out. Its food community made finding the next meal feel like part of the fun. When we thought about expanding, we weren’t discovering the area for the first time. We were going back to a place Abbas already knew and liked.

That matters when you’re picking a spot. A location can look great on paper. Knowing the people, and how a community talks about food, tells you something a lease can’t. It changes the question from “Does this work?” to “Can we see ourselves becoming part of this place?”

The Local Food Community Made the Choice Personal

Long before we opened in Katy, Abbas followed a local food group and leaned on it for recommendations. He’d scroll through the conversations, get hyped about a place he hadn’t tried yet, and use the group to find his next great meal. People there cared about where they ate, and they were happy to share it.

The people behind the kitchens mattered too. Over the years, Abbas got to know other restaurateurs in the area, and those friendships made the idea of being neighbors in Katy feel real, not abstract.

We didn’t want Katy to be a convenient place to hang a second sign. We wanted to join a food community that already had its own voice, its own recommendations, and people who keep showing up for local spots.

The Fit Included the People We Could Serve

Food culture wasn’t the only thing that made sense. Our Katy menu is 100% halal, so we can serve people looking for halal options, along with everyone else who just wants a great burger. We serve the same smash burgers, chopped cheese, fries, and shakes we’re known for.

Here’s what that looks like on the tray. The smash burger hits the flat-top hard, so the edges go lacy and crispy while the cheese melts into the beef. The chopped cheese is our nod to the New York bodegas that inspired us. Get the fries, because they tend to disappear before the burger does. Then grab a shake.

That’s the point: we didn’t have to invent a different spot to make the move make sense. The food and the New York bodega inspiration were already Burger Bodega. Katy just gave us a new neighborhood to bring them to.

A Second Location Shouldn’t Mean a Copy-and-Paste Decision

Our core menu is what people come to us for: smash burgers, chopped cheese, fries, and shakes. We keep it tight on purpose. But picking a location isn’t about copying what worked on Washington Avenue and hoping it works somewhere else.

For us, it came down to the fit between the food we make and the community we wanted to join. We’d spent time eating around the area. Abbas had followed Katy’s food conversations. He knew people building spots nearby. And we could serve people who wanted our food, including people looking for halal options.

The menu gets people through the door. The neighborhood is something we still have to earn, one visit at a time, through the food and how we take care of people.
